OA Officers and Membership
To all of our Ordeal members, with 10 months tenure, set the example to those
that chose you, remember your pledge, when the opportunity at Broadcreek Summer
Camp is offered to you, "Seal your Membership in Brotherhood" do it. Attend any
of the Ordeal/Brotherhood weekends or come up to the Fall Fellowship, we need
you to help us achieve "Honor Chapter", for you are the Chapter.
The 2010 officers:
Chief: Jeff Sommer T-18
Vice Chief: Trevor Echols T-143
Vice Chief: Dan Neighoff C-144
Vice Chief: Andrew Cox T-109
Secretary: Brian Neighoff C-144
What makes a Scout an member of the Scouting Honor Society?
He's a First class [or higher] a camper, who has attended
long term summer camp, and has 15 overnighters in the last 2 years. He has the
support of his parents or guardians, and his Scoutmaster has recommended him to
be part of the Troop's Order of the Arrow's election. If he is elected by his
fellow scouts, meaning he needs a majority of votes by his peers of his troop,
the Troop also needs to have a majority of registered scouts attending. He will
attend an ordeal weekend, on
Friday evening, attend a Pre-Ordeal ceremony, sleep under the stars, do cheerful
service to Broadcreek on Saturday, attend another ceremony on Saturday evening,
and be fully inducted as a member.
Why not give the scout[s] an opportunity to do this?
Well sometimes an adult doesn't want a scout to be a
member, maybe the troop doesn't go camping, maybe they don't advance, but those
that do, should call David Peters at 410-336-9357 or email at
dwpeters480@verizon.net, we will set up the Troop
election, confirm with the Scoutmaster or SA, then conduct the election. We [the
Chapter officers, or chairman] need at least 2 weeks notice, to eliminate having
2 on the same night, all should be done by April 13th. You will find out that a
member of the Order of the Arrow, stays in scouting longer, may become a
chairman or officer himself, gives back to Scouting to those who chose him.
Sound good?
Sure is, and for the adult, one for every 50 registered
scouts may be recommended by the Troop Committee, but only after at least one
scout is elected first.
In cheerful service:
David W. Peters
